Devin task stalled? Check usage and preserve the branch.

A delayed cloud task and missing code are separate questions. Check the remote task and usage status, then compare the latest branch; a local handoff cannot stop the task or decide billing.

Do this first: Stop the task if the control is available, pull or inspect the branch, record timestamps and usage, and contact Cognition support about an ACU refund. Continue locally only from branch state you can verify.

What the failure looks like.

The reported symptom is an unchanged action display and unexpected usage. Record both independently; the display alone does not prove ongoing billing.

Why it happens.

A remote task can remain active even when visible progress has stopped. The cloud session is outside a local recovery tool boundary.

Fix it without losing the task.

Record the Devin task link or ID, visible status, last completed action, and time. Save a screenshot or relevant log only after removing secrets.
Check the linked branch or pull the latest available work into a separate local checkout. Compare commit IDs before treating it as the same task state.
Inspect the branch diff and run a focused read-only status check. Record what is saved and what may exist only in the remote workspace.
If billing or task control looks wrong, preserve the evidence and contact Devin support. Do not assume an ACU refund or retry until the task state is clear.

What the next AI should receive.

Task ID and remote status, last-action timestamp, usage display, latest branch or commit, inspected diff, and the next local verification. Mark billing questions for vendor support.

Check before restarting

Before stopping the remote task, capture its task ID, visible status, time of the last action, and current usage. Then confirm that the expected branch or commit is available locally.

Boundary of the evidence

A local checkout can show saved code, not Devin remote process state or whether a usage charge will be adjusted.

Diagnostic checkpoint

Keep the remote task state and local branch evidence separate; neither proves whether a specific ACU charge is refundable.

How ShardStitch helps.

ShardStitch is useful only after the relevant branch or clone is accessible locally: it can package that project state and the task details you supply. It cannot inspect or stop the remote Devin run or change its ACU billing.

Documented usage and task controls.

Devin usage and sleep behavior and session inspection tools, checked September 27, 2026. The vendor says sleeping sessions do not consume usage. Compare the actual session status with its usage record; these documents do not confirm a general sleep/wake bug or refund entitlement.

FAQ.

Does a stalled Devin task mean its ACUs will be refunded?

Not necessarily. This guide cannot determine billing eligibility. Record the task ID, timing, usage display, and status, then ask Devin support about the specific charge.

Can ShardStitch recover files from a remote Devin workspace?

Only when the project state is available through a branch, clone, or files you provide. It does not connect to or recover an inaccessible remote workspace by itself.

Scope note: Evidence boundary: this page gives a preservation workflow for a remote task that appears stalled. It does not establish the cause of a stall, guarantee a refund, or claim access to Devin cloud state.
