Claude limit handoff checklist
This is the short coding-handoff checklist for a Claude limit interruption. For account reset timing, use the reset schedule guide. For detailed symptom diagnosis and recovery, use the full usage-limit guide.
Check Claude reset timing or diagnose a reached usage limit.
What "Claude limit reached" actually breaks
The visible problem is access: Claude stops, slows down, or asks you to wait. The deeper problem is continuity. A coding session may have changed files, explored dead ends, made decisions, skipped tests, or left a refactor halfway complete. The next session needs that state, not a full transcript.
Before starting a new Claude chat
Commit or at least inspect the current git diff, changed files, generated files, and recent commits. The repository is more reliable than the old chat once a limit interrupts the flow.
Carry decisions, constraints, failed approaches, and verification state. Drop transcript chatter, abandoned branches, and reasoning that did not change the code or the plan.
Use a concise continuation packet when Claude usage returns, or move the task to Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Aider, Roo Code (archived May 2026), or another AI coding tool.
How ShardStitch solves it
ShardStitch reads the project locally and builds a verified continuation packet from git state, changed files, project memory, failed attempts, dependency risk, and next action. It separates known facts from inferred next steps so the next AI does not treat guesses as ground truth.

FAQ
Should I wait for Claude limits to reset?
You can wait for access, but waiting does not preserve working state. Capture the state from disk before the context gets stale or forgotten.
Is a Claude summary enough?
Only if you catch the problem early and the summary is specific. If the session is already blocked, stale, or too long, use git diff and changed files as the source of truth.
Can ShardStitch move the task to another tool?
Yes. ShardStitch formats the continuation packet for supported tools and web handoff flows so the next AI can start from a clean state.
