Short version: Repowise is a codebase intelligence layer. ShardStitch is a local AI coding recovery and handoff layer. The overlap is grounded context; the difference is the failure moment.
Use Repowise when. Use ShardStitch when.
You want durable repo intelligence.
Repowise is strong for architecture maps, C4 views, code health, change risk, ownership, security reachability, auto-wiki, decisions mined from existing artifacts, and MCP tools for live agents.
The AI coding session must continue.
ShardStitch is strong when the old chat is too stale, rate-limited, deleted, locked out, or noisy, and the next AI needs the current goal, changed files, decisions, failed attempts, verification state, and next action.
Capability comparison.
| Capability | Repowise | ShardStitch |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | Codebase intelligence for agents and teams | AI coding session recovery and cross-tool handoff |
| Grounded repo context | Yes. Architecture, code health, risk, decisions, ownership, security, auto-wiki, and MCP context. | Yes. Git-aware state, dependency risk, changed files, recent commits, local memory, and recovery-focused architecture context. |
| MCP tools | Yes. Ten core tools in single-repo mode; workspace mode adds a repository-listing tool. Optional tools can be enabled in configuration. | Yes. 49 MCP tools for scan, recall, handoff, council, and recovery workflows. |
| Best live-agent use | Answer repo questions and guide agents with indexed architecture/risk context. | Give the live or next agent a compact continuation packet tied to the current task. |
| Intent: what the developer was trying to do | Partial. Can be inferred from docs, commits, tickets, and mined decisions. | Yes. Preserved as handoff state when available from local evidence, notes, memory, and current work. |
| Rejected paths and failed attempts | Partial. Usually only present if already written into artifacts. | Yes. First-class continuation material so the next AI does not repeat dead ends. |
| Works after a session dies or gets locked out | Not the primary job. Repowise can provide repo context, but not a full task continuation packet by default. | Yes. Built for stale, dead, rate-limited, deleted, or untrusted AI coding sessions. |
| Cross-tool handoff | MCP and repo context can be used by compatible agents. | Yes. Tool-shaped handoff for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, Aider, Roo Code, Devin and Windsurf, web chats, and more. |
| Zero setup recovery | No. The value comes after indexing/setup. | Yes. The working tree, git diff, changed files, commits, and notes already exist on disk. |
Failure verdict.
Repowise is a broad codebase intelligence suite: graph, wiki, health, risk, and a configurable MCP tool surface (ten core tools in single-repo mode, with additional workspace and opt-in tools). That breadth does not make it a session recovery system.
Its decisions are mined from sources that already exist. If the current intent, failed approach, or uncommitted task state was never recorded, Repowise cannot manufacture it from a wiki. ShardStitch reconstructs the live continuation state.
Repository knowledge is not task continuity.
Explains the codebase.
Its graph and wiki help a live agent understand architecture, ownership, risk, decisions, and code health.
Restores the unfinished task.
It reconciles current disk truth with intent, failed paths, verification state, and the next safe action.
Bottom line.
Choose Repowise if your main problem is making the current agent smarter about the repository. Choose ShardStitch if your main problem is carrying the current task forward when the chat gets stale, dies, hits a limit, or needs to move to another AI tool.
