Manifest is a free, private, plain-markdown context system. It can generate a manifest.md file or a GitHub-backed Context OS so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, and other tools can read the same durable memory.
ShardStitch solves the uglier coding failure case: the session is stale, dead, locked out, deleted, untrusted, or moving tools, and no clean note was written. It reads disk truth and creates the continuation packet from what actually survived.
Where each one fits.
You want free portable memory.
Manifest is strong when you want a human-readable markdown memory layer, owned by you, that every AI tool can read when you remember to keep it current.
The session already broke.
ShardStitch is for recovery from the project itself: git diff, changed files, commits, dependency risk, local evidence, failed attempts, and next action.
Capability comparison.
| Capability | Manifest | ShardStitch |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | Portable AI memory as markdown / Context OS | After-death AI coding recovery and cross-tool handoff |
| Best source of truth | User-maintained markdown context | Disk truth: git diff, changed files, recent commits, notes, dependency graph, local session evidence |
| Price | Free | $49 one-time lifetime license |
| Where memory lives | Single manifest.md file or private GitHub repo owned by the user | Local project/session recovery packet generated from the working tree |
| Cross-tool context | Yes, any model can read the markdown | Yes, 31 AI handoff targets across native integrations and web-chat handoff plus copy/pickup files |
| Requires proactive updates | Yes, the context is strongest when the user/model keeps it current | No for recovery; ShardStitch can rebuild from disk after the fact |
| Works if no note was written | Limited to whatever context already exists | Core case: rebuild from surviving files, diff, commits, and local evidence |
| Verified vs inferred split | Not the core product claim | Yes, separates disk-verified facts from inferred next steps |
| Review/refutation | Not the core product claim | Council Verify challenges claims before handoff trust |
| MCP/runtime workflow | Markdown and GitHub workflow | 49 MCP tools, Hivy, Recall, Blueprint, checkpoints, Oracle Router, Council |
Failure verdict.
Manifest is a well-structured Markdown habit. It is not automatic recovery. The file must be created, updated, reviewed, and still match the working tree.
Free is compelling until the note is stale or absent. At that point Manifest has no reconstruction engine; ShardStitch does.
Bottom line: use Manifest to maintain portable markdown memory before things go wrong. Use ShardStitch when a coding session has already gone wrong and the next AI needs disk-truth recovery.
